Photograph by Colin Davis, 'Lament for Icarus', mounted in a dark and masculine 19th century frame with fine carved gilt decoration, Italy
Description by the artist:
AI is the wax
Invention put Icarus in the air; Hubris put Icarus in the ground. I see AI as a double-edged sword that promises to elevate human capability to unprecedented heights while simultaneously posing existential risks. We may fall because of complacency and convenience driven by capitalism and desire, forgetting that we’re lifted up by millions of near-invisible contributions.
We paradoxically have more agency than any other point in history, but we certainly don’t feel like we’re always in control.
I made a series because in this moment we are all thirsty, distracted, caring, and unconscious. These images are part ‘human’ and part ‘AI’ - the men and the despondency is real; the backgrounds are courtesy of AI."
Colin Davis, a London-based photographer, creates images that celebrate masculine beauty, merging influences from classical painting with the unfiltered intimacy of porn. His work delves into the primal human desire for connection, which underpins every interaction. His photographs have been exhibited in cities like Chicago, Antwerp, and London.
