John Bartlett was born in London in 1960 and spent most of his formative years growing up in Essex. He has lived and worked in London since 1990, completing his art training as a post graduate student at the Royal Academy of Schools in 1994. 

The artist’s desire to create works relevant for his time is evident in his well honed aesthetic sensibilities that embrace both abstract and formal concerns alongside illusionist trickery. Traditional genres of painting are revisited, but adapted to evoke the world we live in today.
